The role of WP 3 is to develop a platform-based workboat family for a wide range of customer demands. The concept is based on the analysis and redesign of standards and scalable functional modules often present in the workboat industry. This process within the NAVAIS project is expressed in 3 different phases:
- An analysis will be conducted of the worldwide registered vessels over the past 10 years, based on which a modular workboat family will be identified.. For each vessel the service, operational areas and basic requirements/functions will be defined, based on, amongst others: main dimensions, propulsion installation, cargo capacity and deck equipment. Finally the standard modules will be defined with respect to their functions and scaling ranges.
- In the second phase, after having defined the workboat class range and its requirements, each vessel will be developed according to the modularity principles and definitions discussed in WP1. The modules defined in the first phase will be defined in terms of physical properties and production information. During the development, particular attention will be paid to lowering energy consumption, emission levels and under water radiated noise.
- During the third and last phase a modular production simulation for the developed platforms will be carried out. In the simulations several variables like human resources, space, lifting capacities, available production technology and equipment will be analysed in order to identify the best match between product and production facilities.
